Arent “Captcha’s” annoying

They sure are! But sometimes we need to use them for a reason.. But two ways we like to try first!

To protect our blogs from endless spam, WordPress installs come bundled with the Askismet plugin. This plugin is fantastic and incredibly reliable, none of the annoying spam has slipped through my comments (it waits patiently in a spam folder for me to approve or delete). My favorite spam prevention method to date is a honeypot approach, which is an option offered out of the box by Gravity forms.
This honeypot approach takes advantage of the inability of the bots to consider what fields they should and should not be completed; the bot just completes them all. In this case, it completes a field that is actually hidden to users. Any value in this field triggers an invalid or spam flag and doesn’t allow the email to be sent.

So, before you go and grab that CAPTCHA tool, think about other ways you can handle eliminating spam. The last thing we or you should want is to lose a visitor and potential client.
If you are a WordPress user, Gravity Forms is a must have! Don’t waste your time with all the plugins out there, use Gravity Forms and skip the CAPTCHA!
